MYC'S JANES CUP/DAY 1

With a shortened course it still wasn't enough to get all 12 boats finished under 12 hours, but for some it was a great chance to get to know their boats again after a long winters refit.. Philip Clarabut the Commodore of the Medway Yacht was on the finish line at buoy Z2 North of Stangate Creek, a patient race officer waiting for the wind to fill in before the rain arrived, but it didn't happen and for some yachts it wasn't even 2 knots over the ground to the finish line against the ebb tide. Congratulations to Robert Leggett with his X332 APE-X with an overall and class win, Ian Pavey with Katla a J30 won class III, Simon Farren with Warrior, an Archambault A40RC sailing 2 handed won the two handed class, YTC & class I.

RBYC'S RALPH HERRING/DAY 2.

12 boats raced from Medway to Burnham on Crouch, joined by Countdown, a sigma 33 from the MYC, another calm day is forecast with light southerlies.Day 2 of our Spring regatta. Congratulations to David Evans for winning the Ralph Herring Trophy, with only a minute between Katla the J30 owned by Ian Pavey who came in second overall. A really close finish on corrected time bearing in mind the fleet kedged up for over an hour waiting for some wind to fill in.Warrior, Simon Farren won class 1, Ape-x Robbert Leggett won class 2The Royal Burnham YC hosted the prize giving and kept the bar open late. Steve Herring presented the trophy to David Evans. Which was greatly received as their friendship on the water goes back almost half a century.

WMYC's Pattinson Cup/DAY 3.

It was an 8am start at the Branklet buoy on the River Crouch to race back to Mersea, 11 yachts were looking for a good position on the start line which caused quite an exciting and vocal start, the winds were very light from the North or North East and it wasn’t long before yachts were tacking within the Buxey Channel. The message went out from Andy Wise our Race Officer to have a shorten course and have a self-timed finish at Barrow No 5.

It was a double win for the Colne Yacht Club in both IRC & YTC: Warrior the A40RC owned by Simon Farren came 1st and 2nd for Imposter the Corby 33 owned by Robin Page, 3rd was Ape-X owned by Robert Leggett in IRC, third in YTC was Katla the J30 owned by Ian Pavey

ROUND UP

The Regatta proved a great success with lovely silverware to be won with so much EAORA history, most yachts were out on the water for a full day for three days, one owner was delighted with these races and after competing Saturdays race which was over twelve hours, he was heard saying “What a great way to learn about my boat, it would have been many two hour Sunday mornings races to match what I have learned today”

The prize giving for the Pattinson Cup & the Mini Regatta will be held at our end of season prize giving on 31st October at the Colne Yacht Club
