We are saddened to announce that Mike Spear died early this morning. Mike was one of the original characters who formed the East Anglian Offshore Racing Association and at the age of 22 was at the inaugural meeting in 1950. Mike sailed with his father for many years, racing on their yacht ‘Brambling’ and then became a regular competitor on the EAORA circuit with a variety of yachts. Mike has been an amazing support to EAORA, winning class II in 1964 in ‘Maleni’ and was chairman from 1966 to 1969. He was also well known as the founder of the privately owned marina at Suffolk Yacht Harbour and was President and Trustee of Haven Ports Yacht Club. On behalf of the EAORA committee we would like to pass on our condolences to Mike’s family, he will be greatly missed by us all.
